Heffley’s Statement on Congressional Map Selection
February 25, 2022
HARRISBURG – Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) issued the following statement regarding the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s selection of the Carter plan for the Commonwealth’s congressional districts:
“I was disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to overstep its jurisdiction and choose a congressional map for Pennsylvania that was not voted on by representatives of the people, but instead, picked by activist judges who were influenced by national Democrat party leaders.
“Gov. Wolf had every opportunity to work with the House State Government Committee to draw new congressional maps following constitutional guidelines that would have truly represented the Commonwealth’s citizens. However, he chose not to do so and left it up to a partisan court to decide.
“This was not how the redistricting process is supposed to work. Sadly, our democracy has suffered as a result.”
